Jerry Lee Moore, 68, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017. Mr. Moore was a native of Carter County and a son of the late, Clyde William “Cobb” Moore and Arlena McKinney Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard “Rick” Moore and a special uncle, Bill McKinney. Mr. Moore was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1966 graduate of Elizabethton High School where he was an avid football and baseball player. He joined the US Navy during the Vietnam War Era and was stationed aboard the USS Boxer, where he served as Legal Yeoman and Court Reporter. Jerry enjoyed a career as Vice President of Kelly’s Foods in Johnson City of which spanned over forty years. He, along with his Uncle Bob and cousin, Debra Moore, assisted Kelly’s Foods in becoming one of the best small food suppliers in the area. Jerry’s favorite hobby was fishing; especially trout fishing in the White River in Cotter, Arkansas. He especially enjoyed teaching and fishing the White River with his grandchildren, Hayley, Nick and Kelly Jo. He also liked to spend time walking on the beach and playing in the ocean with his grandchildren in Marco Island, Florida. He loved teaching Nick about football and watching him play. Those left behind to cherish the memories made together are his wife, Karen “Mammy” Moore; two daughters, Dora Elizabeth “Beth” Moore and Christy Lowe, both of Elizabethton; his son at heart, Larry Stout and favorite daughter-in-law, Kerry, of Butler; daughter at heart, Becky Rideout and special son-in-law, Ted Rideout, of Greenville; special grandchildren, Kelly Jo Stout, Hayley Rideout, Nick Rideout, Malana Griffey and McKinley Griffey; best friend and “little sister”, Karen Turner; sister-in-law, Tammy Moore; special cousin, Debra Lyons and her husband, Ricky; and Jerry’s pet “Mama Cat”. Numerous cousins and friends that he loved dearly also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM. A eulogy and reading of scripture will be given by dear friend, Terry Barnett and singing of hymns will be under the direction of daughter, Becky Rideout, daughter-in-law, Kerry Stout, Pam Vines, Ginny White and Gail Elliott. Active pallbearers will be Larry Stout, Ted Rideout, Nick Rideout, Ricky Lyons, Terry Barnett and Jason Rushe. Honorary pallbearers are Hayley Rideout, Kelly Jo Stout, Karen Turner, Darrell Peters, Debra Lyons, Logan and Liam Rushe, Tonya Kohn, Larry , Judy , Arvel and Floss McKinney, Sue , Wendy and Jeff McKinney, Michael Joe Nelson, Michael Arnold and the many people that Jerry met during his years at Kelly’s Foods and his extended family of cousins.
